My name is Barry, I live in North Wales with my Wife and two Daughters.
For the origin of Olbias Travain, the Inquisitive Fairy I go back to my primary school days in the 1980s. My love for fantasy stories and tales of legends and folklore came from my parents. Growing up, there were always books about local legends around the house, and whenever we visited another part of the country we always came home with at least one new addition. It was reading these tales about fairies, lost treasure and haunted ruined castles that inspired me as a young child to create stories of my own. My head was filled with tales of haunted woods and worlds hidden from human eyes.
All of of this information rolled around in my subconscious as I continued to read and learn, until a few years later when in my last year at primary school Olbias Travain appeared in a story I wrote for a school project.
Over the years Olbias has changed, and I wanted to tell these stories from a different perspective, from someone who belonged in that world but was also fascinated by it. Therefore, Olbias Travain became the conduit around which I would retell these stories (and a few of my own). He could be seen as a mixture of Indiana Jones, Sherlock Holmes and Fox Mulder rolled into one as he travels around investigating myths, meeting those involved, and hearing the events as they saw them.
The events in this book extracts from his notebooks and diaries that I have been given access too.
But there is also a larger narrative, secrets and a sinister ancient network known as ‘The Family’ trying to steal the power that Olbias Travain protects. This book is the first and stands as an opening into the world he inhabits with more to follow to complete the story.
