Mark Nixon

Mark Nixon is an Emeritus Professor at the UK's top Department of Electronics and Computer Science, University of Southampton. My research was in computer vision and in biometrics. We pioneered new biometric approaches, including gait, ear and more recently soft biometrics for surveillance. I supervised a lot of excellent PhD students in those and many other topics.

I've chaired a load of conferences (BTAS, IJCB, ICB, ISBA, BMVC and ICPR) and am a Fellow of the IAPR and the Distinguished Fellow of the BMVA 2015. I was president of the IEEE Biometrics Council and vice chair IEEE PSPB 2017. Having set up the IEEE Transactions on Biometrics, Behavior and Identity Science, I am now the Editor in Chief. I was honoured to receive the Biometrics Council's Leadership Award recently.
