“We can all understand how a man forgives offences against himself. You tread on my toe and I forgive you, you steal my money and I forgive you. But what should I make of a man, himself unrobbed and untrodden on, who announced that he forgave you for treading on other men’s toes and stealing other men’s money? Asinine fatuity is the kindest description we should give of his conduct."
"Yet this is what Jesus did. He told people that their sins were forgiven, and never waited to consult all the other people whom their sins had undoubtedly injured. He unhesitatingly behaved as if He was the party chiefly concerned, the person chiefly offended in all offences. This makes sense only if He really was the God whose laws are broken and whose love is wounded in every sin.” (C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity.)
I read those words late one night while lying on my dorm room bunk at the University of Washington, and my life was forever changed. At that moment, I became convinced that Jesus was everything He had claimed He was. After having explored TM, Buddhism, and other mystical paths, this was the turning point of my entire life.
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). Much of my teaching, preaching, and writing has revolved around explaining why He is the one and only way to the Father, rather than just one among many spiritual alternatives.
To that end, I majored in Comparative Religions at UW, and continued my studies from there (M.Div., Pepperdine; D.Min., Abilene Christian). I was ordained and entered full-time ministry for 15 years. I then taught college and university courses in world religions for nearly twenty years, first at a Bible college, and then at a university. I have also been working with the homeless at a rescue mission and a free medical clinic for more than a decade. In 2008, I was honored to become one of the elders at Ten Mile Christian Church in Meridian, Idaho. I have been married to Shari (my high school sweetheart and love of my life) since 1982. In my spare time, I like to do ham radio and kite flying, sometimes simultaneously. Thanks for checking this out!
