Ronald Sherman

Dr. Sherman has studied and taught at the intersection of medicine, entomology, and wound care for over 40 years. He earned his Bachlor’s degree in entomology in 1979, his medical degree at UCLA in 1983, and his Master’s degree and DTM&H in Clinical Tropical Medicine in 1988. Specializing in internal medicine, infectious diseases, parasitology and international health, Dr. Sherman has provided health care in the U.S. and overseas through a variety of private, public, governmental, and charity organizations. His research in maggot therapy and maggot infestations (myiasis) led him to accept a faculty position at the University of California, and subsequently led to FDA marketing clearance for his work, under the brand name Medical Maggots™. Dr. Sherman co-founded and managed a company to produce and distribute these and other medicinal animals, until retiring in 2020. Dr. Sherman continues to see patients, study medicinal animals and wound healing, teach, and write. In addition to teaching and research, his passions include music, gardening, and his family.
