Peter Van Oossanen

Dr. Peter van Oossanen is a Dutch scientist, naval architect, and author recognized internationally for his pioneering work in hydrodynamics, yacht design, and sailing science. He holds a PhD in fluid mechanics and has contributed to numerous innovations in ship and yacht performance, including groundbreaking research at MARIN (the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands).

He is the author of The Science of Sailing, a comprehensive five-part series exploring the physics and principles of sailing craft — from hull dynamics and aerodynamic forces to performance prediction and design optimization. These books have become a valuable reference for naval architects, designers, and competitive sailors worldwide.

Dr. van Oossanen is also the author of two novels — The Alzheimer’s Cure and Removal of the President — both exploring contemporary scientific and ethical themes through compelling storytelling.
