C. Hoffman was born and raised in Amarillo, Texas, and spent countless weekends at the lake near Fritch, where camping trips and quiet waters became her sanctuary. Even then, her imagination was always at work—creating stories about strangers who passed by, wondering what might be hiding behind their smiles.
As an adult, she continued that ritual with her own family. One afternoon, while watching people from her camper, a single question sparked the idea that would become A Veil of Innocence.
C. Hoffman has always been drawn to the psychology of what we hide—and why. While her protagonist, Lauren, moves through the world with a mask of control, Hoffman’s strength comes from quiet observation. She’s always listening for what people are saying without words, watching how silence speaks. Both know how to read a room—and how to survive in one.
She lives in Texas with her husband, children, and grandchild, and treasures her role as “Nana” most of all. Writing is where she reclaims her voice, and the page is where she finally tells the story her way.
