Deanna Heikkinen

Deanna Heikkinen is an author and educator with a passion for making the history of money accessible and engaging for readers of all ages. As a historian, she brings a unique perspective to her approach to Bitcoin. Deanna, along with her husband, Joel, is the author of the 2004 book, Shells to Satoshi: The Story of Money & The Rise of Bitcoin, which introduces the fascinating evolution of currency from ancient times to the modern age. Additionally, her 2025 book, Ownschooling: Bitcoin, Sovereignty, and Education, provides parents with knowledge and inspiration to take an active role in their child’s education, their own financial independence, and what it means to live a sovereign life. Deanna has also written books for children on the history of money and Bitcoin, featuring stories of the cowrie shell, Mayan cacao beans, Yap stones, Bitcoin’s origins, and others.
