Simon Darling

Simon Darling is a multi-award-winning artist and author whose work spans writing, painting, sculpture, and woodworking. Across mediums, he is drawn to the uncomfortable spaces between what we think, what we feel, and what we are willing to admit.

Drawing on psychology and philosophy, his writing explores certainty, identity, perception, responsibility, memory, and the strange contradictions of being human. Rather than offering answers or instruction, his books tend to do the opposite: isolate a thought, remove the comfortable explanations around it, and leave the reader alone with what remains.

His first three books: in white, in grey, and in black, form a trilogy moving through stillness, tension, and collapse, tracing emotional and perceptual states without forcing them toward resolution.

The Weight of Being Right turns toward certainty itself: what happens after we believe we understand something, and the responsibility and consequence that follow once ignorance is no longer available.

His fifth book, A Very Long Story Nobody Asked For, expands that examination into something more personal and human, a reflection on memory, experience, identity, and the stories through which a life eventually becomes understandable, often much later than we would have preferred.

Across his work, Darling remains less interested in telling people what to think than in disturbing the certainty with which they already think it.
