A M Lavender’s love for storytelling began in high school, but it wasn’t until he became a father that he felt inspired to share his stories with the world. Growing up in Houston, Texas, he spent countless hours watching the hummingbirds that visited his mother’s backyard feeder—a fascination that would later flutter its way into his writing.
Now living in Saratoga Springs, Utah, A M Lavender writes across genres, united by a common theme: fracture and repair.
His whimsical children’s books blend imagination with real wonders of the natural world. The series follows the unlikely friendship between a bat, a hummingbird, and a moth, with each adventure inspired by real phenomena and paired with fun facts for curious young readers.
In epic fantasy, beginning with The Shattered Weave, he writes with a mythic, lyrical tone—exploring balance, consequence, and the cost of holding a broken world together. His stories combine cinematic scope with grounded emotional realism, focusing on characters who stand close enough to the cracks to see what others overlook.
He is also the author of the memoir The Truth I Found in the Silence and the reflective works The Permission Slip: A Field Guide to Stopping the Performance and Surviving Your Own Life and The Work Beyond Forgiveness: On Love, Trust, and What Follows. In his nonfiction, he writes with honesty and clarity about resilience, self-examination, and the quiet work of rebuilding.
When he’s not at his desk crafting new tales, A M Lavender can be found adding to his sports memorabilia and comic book collections, playing video games, or relaxing at home with his wife, children, and their four determined cats.
