Dr. Michael Hein is an executive leadership coach, physician, and former healthcare executive who helps leaders thrive in complexity. His path in healthcare began in the 1980s, working in cardiac rehabilitation, research at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, and physiology research at the University of South Dakota alongside his medical training. Since then, he has experienced nearly every corner of healthcare—as a practicing internist, Chief Medical Officer, CEO of a regional health network, co-founder of a healthcare analytics start-up, and senior leader in the Veterans Health Administration.
In parallel with his medical and executive career, Michael has spent more than 35 years coaching elite athletes, including state and national champions, NCAA All-Americans, and Olympic trial qualifiers. The lessons of high-performance sport—resilience, recovery, and sustainable excellence—continue to shape his approach to executive coaching.
He is the author of Shifting Toward Unorthodoxy. Michael is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) with the International Coaching Federation and is pursuing the Doctor of Management at the University of Hertfordshire Business School with Professor Chris Mowles, in the program founded by Ralph Stacey. He and his wife, Connie, live in rural Nebraska, where he is an avid gravel cyclist and competitive swimmer.
