Ann E. Austin

Ann E. Austin is a University Distinguished Professor at Michigan State University (MSU), where she has served on the faculty in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education in the College of Education since 1991. Her research, grant-funded projects, and publications concern organizational change in higher education; academic careers and professional development; creating more inclusive and equitable academic workplaces; teaching and learning issues in higher education; and STEM education. Dr. Austin has served as Interim Vice Provost and Associate Vice President for Faculty and Academic Staff Affairs at Michigan State, Interim Dean of the College of Education, Associate Dean for Research, and Assistant Provost for Faculty and Academic Staff Affairs. She has been a Program Director at the National Science Foundation (NSF), a U.S. Fulbright Fellow (South Africa), and President of the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE). She was one of the co-founders of the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL), a multi-institutional collaboration of approximately 40 universities that has prepared more than 20,000 doctoral students to be excellent teachers. Her international work in higher education has taken her to more than fifteen countries. Ann also loves spending time with her family, including her husband, three adult children and their spouses, three delightful little grandchildren, and a wonderful feisty little dog (Phoebe).
