Dr Anu Dalal is a scientist, storyteller, and seeker who believes that science doesn’t belong only in laboratories; it lives in our kitchens, festivals, emotions, memories, and everyday moments. Born into a farming family in rural Haryana, where science was rarely spoken of, her curiosity sparked early. She watched her mother cook with intuition, wondered why leaves changed colour with the seasons, and marvelled at how Holi powders swirled through the air like tiny dancers. That quiet wonder grew into a lifelong journey, through molecules, meaning, and magic.
Anu holds a Master’s degree from IIT Roorkee, a PhD in Chemistry from IIT Delhi, and has completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA. Her expertise spans synthetic organic chemistry, chemical biology, computational chemistry, and translational science. But beyond the world of research papers and reaction flasks, she discovered her deeper calling: making science human, poetic, and powerfully relatable.
It’s All Chemistry! is her first book and a love letter to this vision, a celebration of how science weaves through everyday life. In her writing, beakers give way to bubbling pots, equations flow into feelings, and electrons sparkle in festival lights. She writes not just to explain chemistry, but to connect it to stories, to culture, and to the quiet beauty of lived experience.
A mother, mentor, and lifelong dreamer, Anu loves to spend her time sipping chai on a khat under neem trees, wandering through old city lanes, or watching nature unfold with awe. Though city life keeps her busy, she cherishes every chance, whether during trips to her native place or a quiet ridge, to soak in these simple joys. She still asks impossible questions, still breaks old molds, and still believes that the most powerful element in all of chemistry is curiosity.
