Hadil Ghoneim

Hadil Ghoneim is a writer of fiction and nonfiction in both Arabic and English. Her essays have appeared in Zone 3, Michigan Quarterly Review, Arab Lit Quarterly, Mada Masr, Shorouk, and Al-Ahram, and her work was featured in Beyond Memory: An Anthology of Contemporary Arab American Creative Nonfiction (2020). She was also cited in Best American Essays 2021.

Hadil is an award-winning author of numerous children’s and young adult books. Her titles have been finalists and winners of the International Award for Arabic Children’s Literature, featured in the UN SDG Book Club, and selected among the 100 Best Arabic Books for Young People (2018–2024). She also contributed lyrics to the children’s music album Afratta and has written biographies of Naguib Mahfouz and Ahmed Zewail for young readers.

With degrees from Cairo University and the London School of Economics, Hadil has worked as an editor and translator, including on Arabic editions of Geronimo Stilton and Miffy. She lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with her family, and is currently at work on her debut novel for adults, due in 2026.
