Hi — I’m Sam Dessel. I write character-driven science fiction with the sweep of space opera and the momentum of an adventure tale.

My stories combine big ideas with close-up human stakes — rebellions fought in small rooms as often as across burning skies. I’m drawn to found family, moral pressure points, and the moments where ordinary people are forced to choose who they’ll become when the universe shifts beneath them.

My Fractured Galaxy trilogy (Starnexus, Starborn Rising, Precipice Between Stars) follows a rising rebellion as old powers fracture and new loyalties collide, balancing large-scale spectacle with the personal cost of resistance.

I’m also the author of the Children of the Last Ark duology — Before the Tide and The Broken Sky — a fast-moving, high-concept adventure that begins with an unexpected departure into space, leads to first contact beyond Earth, and returns to a future that is no longer what anyone expected.

Expect cinematic action, dangerous ideas, deep bonds under pressure, and science fiction that keeps its focus firmly on the people inside the chaos.

When I’m not writing, I’m usually reading across science fiction and fantasy, sketching new worlds, building chapter playlists, or mapping the next story universe.
