I am a retired mother of two and I live in a small village on the northern end of Vancouver Island, BC Canada. I first got the idea for Oscar the Oyster many years ago while sitting at a beach by the ocean and letting my imagination contemplate the life of sea creatures there and particularly in the tide pools. I have always had a love for nature and the animals and insects that we share this beautiful planet with. Oftentimes I would find myself creating personalities and stories while watching even something as simple as ants milling about attending to their business of finding food.
Oscar started out as three very short and simple mini-stories - one for each of the main characters, Oscar the Oyster, Samantha the Sea Snail and Stanley the Starfish. I read them to my sons as they were still quite young then. Over the years, my youngest son would periodically prod me with a 'Mom, you have to do something with those stories!'. Last year, I finally decided it was time to take him at his word and 'Oscar the Oyster' was brought fully into the world.
It has been quite a journey to grow and expand with Oscar and his friends as this book took shape from its humble beginnings. For those who buy this book, I hope you and your child enjoy reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it!
