Julia Blackburn

Julia Blackburn writes middle-grade wildlife adventures infused with magical realism and the wild magic of nature. A former BBC Berkshire book reviewer, she creates fast-paced stories of courage, friendship, survival, and discovery for readers aged 8–12.

Her nature adventure series, The Songbird Choir, follows the birds of Riverside Garden as they face predators, bullies, and impossible choices—discovering that even the smallest voices can change the world. Her debut novel, The Lost Dragonflies, was longlisted for the Times/Chicken House Children’s Fiction Competition.

Before turning to children’s fiction, Julia co-authored the cozy mystery The House at Riverside Lane (Momentum Press/Joffe Books). She writes from Berkshire with her loyal dog, Muttley, nearby, and collaborates with her daughter Louisa, who illustrates her books.

Together, they create immersive middle-grade adventures filled with wildlife, mystery, resilience, and the wild magic of the natural world.

“A beautifully written nature adventure celebrating friendship, courage and inclusion."
