Charlott Ruth Kott was born in Leipzig in 1937 and, after fleeing the GDR in 1954, became Braunschweig's first female typesetter.
Charlott Ruth Kott completed her artistic training between 1979 and 1982. She studied at the Adult Education Center in Braunschweig, as a guest student at the Braunschweig University of Arts under Professors Voigt and Sorge, and undertook study visits to Provence, France. As a scholarship holder of the State of Lower Saxony, she also attended the Summer Academy in Salzburg with Arik Brauer in 1982.
Her first solo exhibition, “Landscape Painting – Drawings – Flower Still Lifes,” took place in 1982 at the Kunstsalon Straetz in Freiburg.
In addition to her passion for painting, Charlott Ruth Kott completed her studies in writing at the Axel Anderson Academy and has published several books as an author.
