S.L. Walsh

S.L. Walsh is a professional dog trainer, K9 handler, and co-owner of a working K9 kennel and dog rescue, Hurricane Creek K9, in Georgia, where she and her husband train both working and pet dogs and rehabilitate dogs in need. Surrounded by dogs of every personality and purpose, she has spent years teaching both canines and humans how to communicate with patience, clarity, and kindness.

The idea for the Scout Learns children’s training series was born at home—watching her two-year-old daughter, Scottie, fall in love with their dog Scout and joyfully “help” with training around the kennel. Seeing how naturally children want to participate in dog care and how early those lessons shape kindness and confidence, she began writing simple, child-led training stories to guide families through their own first steps with their dogs.

Through gentle language, real training principles, and cheerful illustration, the Scout Learns series helps young readers build safe, positive habits with the dogs they live and grow with. A portion of all proceeds from the series directly supports the family’s rescue mission, providing training, care, and second chances to working-dog candidates in shelters.

S.L. continues to write from her home in Georgia, where there is rarely a quiet moment and never a shortage of wagging tails.
