Sometimes it feels like you need a “story” to share your story. But the truth is, everyone has a story—no matter how big or small, no matter how different from others. So here’s my story…
We moved from Minnesota to Amsterdam. That’s right—my husband and I sold our house and two cars, packed up three kids under two (plus a cat and a dog), and moved halfway around the world. While it was everything you’d dream of—the canals, the croissants, the bikes, the houseboat—it was also a struggle.
I left a career in the U.S. that I loved and found a new job overseas. Except that job didn’t fulfill me and didn’t make sense for our family, especially with the time zone challenges. After many, many conversations, it became clear I needed a change. I quit my “Euro” job and decided to stay home with our three kids. There would never be a better time to be a stay-at-home mom—especially while living our European adventure and our kids were still little.
Flash forward a few months…
I was losing my mind. I adore my kids, but being with them all day was harder than I expected—and somehow, I was busier than ever. Instead of sulking, I used my very limited free time to write a fairy tale. A book. Together, my husband and I built a complex fantasy world, and then it happened. I just started writing. Jotting ideas during bike rides, writing paragraphs during swing pushes at the park, finishing dialogue on the waterdock while the kids slept. What began as a therapeutic outlet turned into my first 465-page novel.
And now I’m hooked—immersed in the world, the characters, the writing.
