Jessica Bowles began her personal yoga practice in 1996, as a teenager living in the suburbs of West Virginia, through the study of Erich Schiffmann’s book Yoga: The Spirit and Practice of Moving Into Stillness and the video Yoga Mind & Body with Ali MacGraw. She is forever grateful that, in a time when yoga was emerging into communities through asana, he presented and shared the foundation of yoga’s true purpose of uniting with self through meditation. In 2006, after moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, Jessica discovered a local teacher training led by Lesa Crocker, who had been trained by Erich. Jessica completed her 230-Hour Registered Yoga Teacher credential through Bodhi Tree Yoga School and began the journey of teaching weekly classes while continuing her education, later receiving her 500-Hour RYT credential from Asheville Yoga Center. It was at this time that she met Michael Stone, who led the weekend on the Yoga Sutras. His teachings on the depth of practice prompted an immense shift in Jessica’s personal understanding of yoga and expanded the ways in which she could share meditation with others.
In 2009, Jessica studied Thai Yoga Therapy with Saul David Raye at Ritam Healing Arts in Ojai, California, and experienced the capacity of the body and mind to heal and rejuvenate. She then received her 625-Hour Ayurveda Wellness Counselor credential from Kerala Ayurveda Academy in 2010, which allowed her to understand the depths of how our daily routines and habits create our current state of being. She also traveled annually to study with Michael Stone up until his sudden passing in 2017 as well as with Erich Schiffmann before his teaching hiatus that same year. This was a time of immense shedding of old ideas and habits while, at the same time, learning through a clearer, expanding view.
In 2015, Jessica opened The Meditation Room in hopes of creating a center for meditation in her local community of Lake Norman, North Carolina. Today, Jessica continues to share with others the ability to heal and change self-destructive patterns of the mind and clear the mental clutter that accumulates by practicing meditation and yoga. Her passion and practice shine through as she shares techniques, practices, and the wisdom of yoga philosophy through tangible teachings that relate to modern-day living and can be easily infused into everyday life.
