Gavin McGregor

Gavin McGregor is a Scottish Traveller author, storyteller and independent publisher whose writing contributes to the growing body of Scottish Traveller literature while also exploring the wider worlds of folklore, imagination and contemporary storytelling.

Rooted in the traditions of storytelling, folklore and the people of the road, his writing explores memory, belonging, identity and the enduring relationship between people, place and story.

Shaped by Scotland’s landscapes and inspired by Scottish Traveller oral tradition, Gavin draws upon folklore, family history and cultural traditions to create stories that blend lived memory with imagination. His work invites readers to slow down, listen and rediscover a deeper connection to the land, its people and the stories that continue to shape them.

As an independent publisher, Gavin is building a growing body of work that brings Scottish Traveller voices, cultural memory, folklore and imaginative storytelling into print for new generations of readers. Through works such as The Perfect World: A People of the Road, The Nackens: A People of the Road, The Traveller and the Grey Dog, The Frost Listens, Then Lifts and The Boy and the Living Colour, his writing moves from the roads and traditions of Scotland’s Traveller community into quiet, imaginative worlds shaped by wonder, landscape and the unseen connections between people and place.

Gavin believes that stories are a form of memory that never truly disappears. They live in the landscape, in old songs, in family histories and in the paths people leave behind. Through literature, storytelling and independent publishing, his work seeks to preserve and celebrate Scottish Traveller culture while creating new stories that carry the old tradition of storytelling forward for present and future generations.
