Mom and Dad were married just before Dad was off to war, and Mom was pregnant with Brat #1, who was born while Dad was in N. Africa. Brat #2 came along after Dad was wounded in France and discharged from the Army. He soon re-enlisted and the family followed him to Japan.
I arrived in Japan 3 years after the end of WWII. One year later, we were in Newport News, VA, where we welcomed 2 more Brats. The 2nd arrived while Dad was in Turkey, and was the 1st and only girl to join the Heath Brat Platoon. The remaining 4 Brats came along as we continued following Dad around our world.
After H.S., I had been accepted to the U. of SC., and Dad said, "Bob, you're not college material!" Well, I had way too much fun and was placed on probation for 2 years.
I got married, served in the Navy, had a child and ultimately gained my PhD and served as an educator for 37 years. Obviously, I proved Dad correct in the beginning.
We all absolutely loved how we grew up, living among different cultures around our world and the United States, wreaking incredibly fun havoc wherever we lived, and making and leaving friends repeatedly. What made leaving friends so easy for us, though, was that we all had US as our forever friends.
