Jing Zhang

Jing Zhang, also known as Elva, is a Melbourne‑based author who creates gentle, emotionally intelligent picture books for children navigating big feelings, family change, and the early shaping of identity.

Originally from China and now calling Australia home, Jing brings a cross‑cultural sensitivity to her storytelling. She writes with the belief that while cultures may differ, the inner worlds of children—their fears, joys, confusion, and longing for belonging—are beautifully universal.

By day, Jing works as a lawyer. Through her writing, she draws on everyday family life and mindfulness‑inspired themes such as emotional awareness and self‑acceptance, crafting stories that feel both tender and grounded.

Her debut picture book, After the Little Baby Arrived, grew out of late‑night conversations with her eldest son as he adjusted to becoming a big brother. The story offers reassurance to children finding their place in a changing family, and quiet comfort to the adults supporting them.

Through her books, Jing hopes to create heartfelt stories that help children feel seen, supported, and gently guided.

She also hopes her stories resonate with adults—parents, caregivers, or their own wise inner child—reminding them that they, too, are worthy of compassion, understanding, and a soft place to land.
