Robert Hamilton is an Appalachian storyteller and the creator of the Appalachian Story Swap, a community program that brings people together through conversation, memories, and shared stories. Raised in the mountains of eastern Kentucky, he grew up surrounded by coal camps, family farms, country churches, and the people whose lives continue to inspire his writing.
His memoir series, The Poppy Collection, honors those experiences through stories of family, faith, hard work, resilience, and the quiet strength of Appalachian life. Rather than focusing on stereotypes, Robert writes about the dignity, humor, and enduring values that shaped generations of mountain families.
Through library programs, bookstores, community events, and Story Swaps, Robert encourages audiences to tell their own stories as much as they listen to his. He believes that preserving ordinary lives is one of the most important ways to preserve Appalachian history.
Robert continues to write from his home in Ohio while remaining deeply connected to the mountains of eastern Kentucky that first taught him the power of a good story.
