Ben Miles is a horror writer from Nottingham in the East Midlands, where the places, landscapes and character of the region provide the backdrop for his stories.
Ben's love of storytelling began in primary school. At around eight years old, he wrote a series of short stories about a dog who repeatedly saved a small town from disaster.
His fascination with horror began just as early. After growing up on Goosebumps and Shivers, Ben became an avid reader of Stephen King and spent much of his school years searching the library for horror and psychological fiction. Writing eventually took a back seat as work and family life took over, but he returned to it years later and hasn't looked back.
His first novel, The Hollow, began simply as another story he wanted to tell. Encouraged by his partner to publish it, Ben took the leap into self-publishing and discovered that perhaps those stories he'd always written just for himself were worth sharing after all.
Ben writes horror rooted in the familiar: ordinary people, recognisable places and the unsettling things that might be hiding just beyond the edge of everyday life. His goal is to make readers uncomfortable, keep them awake a little longer than they intended, and bring a little more darkness to a part of the country that he believes deserves far more attention.
The Midlands has plenty of stories to tell. Ben intends to tell the darker ones.
