Mary Scheidegger

Mary Scheidegger is a Canadian writer and kinship-care advocate whose work supports grandparents raising grandchildren. Drawing from her own experience as a full-time caregiver to her grandson, Mary created GrandFamily World, an online community that offers connection, encouragement, and practical resources for grandfamilies navigating this unexpected role.

A lifelong storyteller and digital communications specialist, Mary founded WordArt WebArtistry in 1997, helping nonprofits, community groups, and purpose-driven small businesses share their mission with clarity and heart. She has also spent decades volunteering in literacy, youth development, and mental health initiatives, earning recognition as Shuswap Woman of the Year for her contributions to community life.

Mary’s writing focuses on resilience, caregiving, and the real challenges and quiet courage of kinship families. She lives in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, with her partner, Wes, and their grandson they are raising — the inspiration for her work and the heart behind every page she writes.
