Jim Koetting

Jim Koetting is an author, entrepreneur, executive advisor, and keynote speaker whose work explores leadership, digital distraction, cognitive performance, and the human side of artificial intelligence. During a career spanning more than four decades, he has built companies, developed software, advised executives, led multidisciplinary teams, and mentored entrepreneurs and business leaders.

Jim is the author of three books, including Public Funds Investing for Dummies, published by Wiley, and Hijacked: How Digital Distraction Took Over Your Mind and the PRECEPT Framework to Take It Back. His writing examines how screens, algorithms, constant interruption, and digital habits affect attention, decision-making, relationships, leadership, and workplace performance.

His perspective is shaped by business experience, extensive independent study, and a personal recovery journey that began in 1989. Jim draws connections between addictive patterns and the digital behaviors that can gradually weaken focus, agency, identity, and human connection. He writes about practical ways individuals and organizations can become more intentional about how they think, work, lead, and use technology.

As the founder of CEOM Consulting, Jim studies cognitive debt, which he describes as the accumulated loss of clarity, focus, trust, and organizational capacity caused by distraction, mental overload, and ineffective systems. His work also explores Adaptive Operator Intelligence: the human ability to learn quickly, recognize patterns across disciplines, adapt to unfamiliar conditions, and turn insight into action. He believes these capabilities are increasingly important as artificial intelligence changes how organizations operate and make decisions.

Jim hosts the Speaking with Authority podcast and speaks to business and leadership audiences across the country. He lives in Kansas City, Missouri, where he continues to write, advise leaders, and study how people and organizations can remain attentive, adaptable, and fully human in a rapidly changing world.
