Gerrie Steiner served eight years as a Fallschirmjäger — German airborne infantry — with the Bundeswehr, followed by reserve service with a Gebirgsjäger Bataillon (Mountain Infantry) until 2006. He then spent over two decades working as a private military and security contractor across some of the world's most volatile regions, including Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sudan and Sri Lanka.
From 2006 to 2009 he worked as a Watchkeeper and Ops Coordinator in Baghdad, tracking convoys, managing communications and IT systems, and watching other people's money move through one of the most dangerous road networks on earth.
His first book, "PMC-Contractor: Westliche Söldner im Einsatz", was published in German and re-released in an updated edition by EK-2 Publishing.
"The Baghdad Job — Five FOBs Down" is his English-language fiction debut: a heist thriller built from the inside of a world that most fiction only visits from the outside.
He is based in Johannesburg and writes under a pen name.
The operational background is real.
The characters are fictional.
The money is gone.
