Vivek Verma

Vivek Verma grew up in India in the era of Amar Chitra Katha — those beloved illustrated comics that first introduced millions of Indian children to the heroes and villains of their own history. Gandhi was always on the cover. The revolutionaries rarely were.

That imbalance never left him.

Now based in Canada, Vivek spent years researching the decade that popular history forgot — the turbulent 1920s, when armed revolutionaries, political organisers, and a rising Gandhi were all competing to define what Indian independence would look like, and what it would cost. The question that drove him: if Gandhi was the exception among the revolutionaries, who were the rule?

The result is his debut work, Mahatma Among the Revolutionaries — a book he wishes he had been able to read at twenty, and one his own children are reading today.

A graduate of the University of Delhi, Vivek writes at the intersection of history, memory, and the stories that South Asian diaspora communities carry with them across generations and borders. His book has received a GET IT verdict from Kirkus Reviews, been reviewed by Indian Book Critics and Read by Critics, and has been featured at Indigo Canada book signing events in the Greater Toronto Area.
