Heather Smith is a Canadian physician, writer, and parent who creates books about neurodiversity for children, teens, and the adults who support them. Her work focuses on translating complex information into language that is practical, accessible, and usable in real life.
After learning her son is autistic, Heather found herself doing what many families do. She learned not only how to support her child, but how to re-examine her entire family, including herself, through a neurodivergent lens. That experience now shapes both her writing and her approach. She brings together a clinical background, lived experience, and systems-level thinking to help readers understand behaviour, emotions, and needs with greater clarity and compassion.
Heather writes nonfiction resources for children and caregivers, as well as children’s and youth fiction that explores neurodivergent experiences with honesty and respect. Across all of her work, her goal is the same: to synthesize information, strip away noise and judgement, and make understanding feel possible.
