Jay David

Jay David built his career in the space between finance and operations.

He began as a cost accountant before moving from the numbers into operations and eventually becoming Chief Operating Officer of a large, multi-plant, cross-border food business serving major retailers across the United States.

That path shaped his view that some of the most valuable leaders in a business are those who can understand both what the financial statements say and what is actually happening in the operation.

Today, Jay writes, teaches, and advises at the intersection of finance, operations, cost management, and business leadership. His work focuses on helping management accountants, controllers, and finance professionals become stronger business partners by developing operational fluency, while helping operations leaders build the financial acumen they need to succeed beyond the plant floor and in the executive conference room.

His business novel, The Gap, explores that divide through the story of a manufacturing company learning that financially correct numbers do not always tell leaders everything they need to know to make the right decision.

Jay's broader work through Do Business Better focuses on closing the distance between the financial and operational worlds—helping professionals on both sides speak the same language, make better decisions, and build careers capable of leading the whole business.
