Samuel Basi

Samuel Basi is a commodity trader, risk management specialist, author, and founder of Perfectly Hedged LLC. His career has spanned physical commodity trading, derivatives, proprietary trading, and market risk across the global base metals industry.

He began his career in commodity operations before moving into hedging and physical trading at Trafigura, one of the world’s largest commodity trading firms. Working across aluminum, zinc, lead, and copper, Samuel managed domestic and international trading flows spanning Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas.

At the age of 24, he became a physical trader and went on to build and manage large trading books, oversee complex arbitrage and spread exposures across the London Metal Exchange and CME, and manage the commercial and market risks that arise throughout the physical commodity supply chain.

In 2019, Samuel joined Greenwich Metals Inc., where he established and led the firm’s derivatives desk. He managed company-wide hedging and market risk, ran a proprietary futures and options portfolio, served on the firm’s risk committee, and delivered internal training on derivatives, margin, exchange mechanics, and risk management.

Samuel founded Perfectly Hedged LLC in 2023 to address a persistent gap within the commodity industry: the lack of practical, accessible education about hedging, physical trading, and risk. Through his books, training, and advisory work, he helps commodity professionals understand how physical transactions, derivatives, operations, finance, and risk management fit together—and how costly mistakes can be avoided.

He is the author of Perfectly Hedged: A Practical Guide to Base Metals and The Physical Trade: A Definitive Guide to Physical Commodity Trading. Both books draw on his real-world experience to translate complex subjects into clear explanations, practical frameworks, and worked examples.

They are written for traders, operations teams, finance and risk professionals, students, and anyone seeking a realistic understanding of how physical commodity markets actually work.
