Nick Mount

Nick Mount is a professor in the University of Toronto’s Department of English, where he teaches Canadian literature and whatever else they tell him to do. He is a bi-coastal Canadian, mostly raised and educated in British Columbia and Nova Scotia and now living and working in the black hole at the country’s centre (not “center”). He taught Canada’s largest English class for almost twenty years, to over 9,000 students. He has received many awards for his teaching, including a 3M National Teaching Fellowship, Canada’s highest teaching award. The former fiction editor of Canada’s national magazine The Walrus, he regularly gives public talks on arts and letters. His book When Canadian Literature Moved to New York won the Gabrielle Roy Prize for the best book in Canadian literary criticism; his book, Arrival: The Story of CanLit, was a best book of the year in Canada and a national bestseller. His current book is Vandals: A History of Destruction from Antiquity to Tomorrow, forthcoming from Simon & Schuster (U.S.) and Penguin Random House-M&S (Canada) in February 2027. He is represented by Jim Levine, principal agent at Levine Greenberg Rostan Literary Agency in New York.
