Lucy Summers

Lucy Summers is the author of The Power of Plants and the much-loved Greenfingers Guides. She was honoured to be named Garden Journalist of the Year by The Garden Media Guild, and her book Border Plants was shortlisted for Reference Book of the Year in 2011.

Lucy has worn many hats over the years—waitressing, modelling, and TV broadcasting before finding her true home as an award-winning landscape designer and garden writer. Plants have always been her great love. They make her happy, keep her curious, and continue to shape her work. Alongside writing her own books, she has also quietly ghostwritten a number of titles for some rather lovely people.

Born in Kent, Lucy’s early years were marked by challenge. She and her three sisters spent part of their childhood in a children’s home before being taken under the wing of what she fondly calls a ‘fairy godfather,’ who helped change the course of her story. Like her gardens—and her books—Lucy considers herself a work in progress. She has an entirely irrational dislike of cooked carrots, though she dutifully crunches a raw one each day in the spirit of personal growth.
