Neil Mackenzie

Neil grew up on the shore of Strangford Lough in Northern Ireland, where, having learned to play the guitar, he dreamed of becoming a famous rock star.

After graduating, Neil took off to Kenya where, for ten years, he was a teacher. The first school he taught at was on the edge of the Great Rift Valley after which he took up a position in an international school in Nairobi. During this time Neil represented his adopted country at rugby.

Escaping the classroom Neil fell into managing major events as well as buying and selling their rights. More enjoyably, however, Neil continued his passion for music, playing, ever enthusiastically in several gloriously unsuccessful bands.

In 2008, Neil emigrated to Adelaide with his wife, Victoria, and kids, Joal and Eve. Here he has run a yacht club, a golf club and an event management agency. In 2022, Neil’s role as MD at a company that designed and distributed hair foils was made redundant which allowed him to take stock and consider what was important in life...

...like writing a book. Neil now combines writing with supporting people with disabilities. Despite establishing a band called Them Creepy Crawlies, musical fame and fortune continues to elude Neil.
