Ryan T. O?Leary

Ryan T. O’Leary, Ph.D. is a Wisconsin native and award winning educator who has taught with the Universities of Wisconsin for more than a decade. His scholarly work focuses on American religion, political culture, and public discourse. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa, specializing in philosophical theology and modern religious thought.

O’Leary lives in Marshfield, Wisconsin, with his wife Doreen and their three cats—Priscilla, Pixel, and Scully—and he enjoys exploring Wisconsin by trail and kayak. His first book, Embattled We Are, grew out of a project tracing how President George W. Bush justified the War on Terror by using religious themes and ideals, which led him to ask similar questions about presidents throughout American history.
