I've been swinging a metal detector for 38 years, and I still get the same feeling standing in a field that I got the first time something good came out of the ground.

I'm based in Wisconsin but spend a good part of my time traveling to Civil War states — Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Pennsylvania — hunting the sites that produced the bullets, belt buckles, and personal relics that connect us directly to the men who fought there.

The Metal Detecting Mastery Series came out of years of field experience — because most detectorists struggle not with equipment, but with research. The Dirt & Disorder Mysteries grew out of the same ground: Earl Boggs hunts the same sites I hunt, and finds more trouble than I do.
