Originally from the United States, he now lives in Birmingham, England, after spending several years in South Wales. That experience of place—of cities and communities that shape the people within them—runs through his work, giving his stories a grounded, lived-in feel.

Under his full name, Jodie Gaston, he also edits and publishes literary anthologies and modernised classics.
