John Glassey

John Glassey is a First Nations (Mohawk) writer and illustrator from Montague Sooke, British Columbia, Canada. He is the creator of eight self-published children’s books currently available on Amazon, including his popular Banana Patch Kids series. These stories celebrate emotions, friendship, First Nations traditions, and the joy of being yourself through lovable animal characters and warm, hand-drawn illustrations.

With Funny Bunny, John brings his signature pencil-crayon style and love of simple, repetitive text to a traditional picture book for the first time. Designed as an early reader for ages 4 to 7, the story features one easy sentence per page and a catchy “Funny that Bunny!” refrain so young children can read along with confidence and delight. The book follows an adorable white bunny who loves dressing up in silly costumes — cowboy, pirate, superhero, chef, astronaut, and clown — until he learns that the very best version of himself is simply being Bunny.

John’s work is inspired by the natural beauty of coastal British Columbia and the storytelling traditions of his First Nations heritage. He creates books that spark imagination, laughter, and gentle life lessons for the youngest readers.

John lives with his family on Salt Spring Island and continues to write and illustrate stories that honour joy, kindness, and the wonder of childhood.
