Lucienne Carasso

Lucienne Carasso grew up in Alexandria, Egypt. After leaving Alexandria at the age of fifteen and a half, she lived in Genoa, Italy for a year before obtaining a visa to immigrate to the United States as a stateless political refugee. She graduated from Hunter College of CUNY and earned a Ph.D. in Medieval French and Italian Literature at Yale University. She was inducted in the Hunter College Hall of Fame. She is the author of "The Merveilleux in Chretien de Troyes' Romances," which was published by Librairie Droz in Geneva.

In 2014, she wrote her memoir, "Growing Up Jewish in Alexandria: The Story of a Sephardic Family's Exodus from Egypt," in which she shares the magical world of her childhood in the rich, multifaceted city of Alexandria among her multilingual, cosmopolitan family.

Carasso's experience as a Jewish woman, who became a stateless refugee after being forced to relinquish her Egyptian citizenship and leaving her native Egypt, gave her a lifelong interest in the history of the Middle East, hence her more recent book, "The Indigenous People of Israel/Palestine: The Return of the Jews to their Ancestral Homeland." In this book, Carasso corrects many misconceptions about the Jewish people's connection to the land of Israel. She proves with evidence that Jews were always present in the land of Israel even after they were expelled from their homeland by the various colonizing empires. She shows that Jews always returned to their homeland century after century until present times. She dispels the claim that Jews are the colonizers of their own land and reveals who the true invaders and colonizers are. She shows that the name of Palestine was coined and imposed by the Roman colonizers who simply changed the name of Judea/Israel in order to sever the connection of the Jewish people to their ancestral homeland.

Carasso is also the creator of a 24" by 36" Poster, “Timeline of Jewish History vs World History” that juxtaposes events in Jewish History against important events taking place elsewhere in the world from 2000 BCE to 500 CE.
