Tim McDonald knows firsthand what it means to face a life-altering diagnosis and choose to turn that experience into something larger than himself. A stage IV colorectal cancer survivor, Tim has spent years transforming his survivorship into advocacy work that reaches patients, caregivers, and healthcare organizations across the country.
With 17 years of experience in community building, including roles at HuffPost and Raptive, Tim brings a communicator's instinct to the world of patient advocacy. He serves as a Research Advocate with Fight Colorectal Cancer, Florida Chapter Leader for Man Up to Cancer, and sits on patient advisory councils with HOPA and the PAN Foundation. He also hosts the Advocacy at Work podcast and Substack newsletter, where he explores the intersection of lived experience and systemic change.
Tim has spoken internationally on advocacy, community, and the power of patient voices, and his writing has helped amplify the work of advocates and healthcare leaders around the world.
From Patient to Advocate: Turning Survivorship Into Impact is his first book, a practical and personal guide for anyone who has lived through a health crisis and wants to channel that experience into meaningful action.
Tim lives in Tampa, Florida.
