William Zeitler

William Zeitler is an author, composer, and musician whose work explores the territory where music, myth, spirituality, and the search for meaning meet.

A graduate of California Institute of the Arts, he has composed eight albums as well as music for film and television, and has received commissions from ensembles in the United States and Europe. As one of the world's few professional players of Benjamin Franklin's glass armonica, he has performed internationally, including appearances at the Kennedy Center and Hollywood Bowl, and can be heard on major film soundtracks. He is also the author of The Glass Armonica: The Music and the Madness, the first book-length history of the instrument.

William is the founder of GrailHeart, a project devoted to stories, music, and reflections that explore what it means to become fully human. GrailHeart grew from his conviction that reason alone is not enough: human beings also make sense of their lives through story, beauty, imagination, and kinds of knowing that cannot always be reduced to propositions.

Underlying all his work is a conviction that becoming more fully human requires recovering some of humanity's oldest languages: myth, story, music, beauty, wonder, and the sacred.
