Nick Miller

Nick Miller has spent over 30 years working in weld shops as a fabricator and welder.

He didn’t set out to write a book. The ideas behind Respect the Work came from years of seeing the same problems repeat themselves—skilled people struggling not because they lacked ability, but because certain parts of the trade were never clearly explained.

Over time, those observations turned into a way of thinking about the work. Not just how to weld, but how to see it, understand it, and approach it with consistency.

Respect the Work was written to put those lessons into words. Not as a manual, but as something welders can recognize immediately, because they’ve already seen it, even if no one ever explained it that way.

Nick still works in the trade and continues to build, observe, and refine the ideas behind his work. He also speaks with fabrication and manufacturing teams about improving awareness, consistency, and performance in the shop.

He lives and works in Ohio.
