Laura E. Davis is an author, artist, and former clinical social worker whose life has been shaped by creativity, curiosity, resilience, and an enduring interest in how people navigate change.
Laura holds a Master of Social Work degree and previously worked as a clinical social worker, including therapeutic work with older adults. Her professional experience gave her an intimate view of the ways people adapt to loss, uncertainty, relationships, aging, identity, and circumstances they never expected to face.
Long before becoming a therapist, Laura was an artist and entrepreneur. Her hand-painted children's furniture was featured in New York Magazine's “Best Bets” and displayed at FAO Schwarz. Over the years, she has continued to write, draw, paint, design, and create books for both children and adults.
Her own life has also given her an education no classroom could provide. She has experienced extraordinary joy and devastating loss, raised a family, built businesses, changed careers, returned to school as an adult, loved imperfectly, made mistakes, begun again, and discovered that even during life's most difficult chapters, pain is rarely the only thing present.
In What Else Is Here?, Laura brings together her therapeutic background, lived experience, humor, creativity, and lifelong habit of looking beyond the obvious. Through personal stories, psychological insight, reflection, and practical exercises, she invites readers to become more awake, aware, and ready for action—to recognize what is actually present, widen their perspective, and participate more fully in their own lives.
Laura's work is grounded in a simple but powerful question: when one thought, problem, fear, loss, or expectation has taken over the entire picture—
What else is here?
