Thomas Waite has a confession — like the hero of his debut novel, he is an engineer with a PhD from Harvard who has spent decades working in Southeast Asia for people who didn't always tell him the full picture.

The difference, so far, is that no one has tried to kill him.

A former Dean of Engineering at Florida Institute of Technology and Professor Emeritus, Dr. Waite has consulted on projects throughout Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia — the same waters his fictional Dr. Dwayne Smaak is dragged across in ELUSIVE. His international work with the World Health Organization, the U.S. Navy, and the Pan-American Health Organization gave him a front-row seat to the back-channel politics and tangled bureaucracy that shape the region.

He is the author of four nonfiction books, more than 150 technical papers, and one international maritime standard adopted by the IMO.

ELUSIVE is his first novel. He divides his time between Florida and wherever his next consulting job sends him.
