Sylvain Laborde

Sylvain Laborde is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Psychology, Department of Performance Psychology, at the German Sport University Cologne, Germany, where he founded HRV LABorde – Performance Psychophysiology. Originally from France, he has lived and worked in Germany for 18 years. He has published 150+ peer-reviewed research papers, authored or edited five books, and gives keynote lectures in French, English, German, Spanish, and Italian. His work focuses on heart rate variability, self-regulation, stress management, cognitive performance, breathing techniques, and emotional intelligence in sport. He developed the Vagal Tank Theory. Beyond academia, he is passionate about cycling, singing, and playing the piano, and enjoys sharing science through Science Slams and live shows.
