Mike Mense

Mike Mense received a 1973 Virginia Tech B.Arch with highest honors and a 2015 CCNY Master of Urban Design, is registered in Alaska and Washington and has practiced as mmenseArchitect(s) since 1979. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.

Designing approximately 1250 projects in Alaska and beyond, Mike has received local, regional, and national design awards including a 1996 AIA Urban Design Honor Award. In partnership with Morphosis, mmenseArchitects won the Alaska Capitol Design Competition in 2005. He imagined and designed “From Canvas to Steel, Ed Crittenden and the Architecture of Anchorage, 1950-2000” at the Anchorage Museum of History and Art in 2006. He has published numerous articles and op-ed pieces on architecture and urban design.

Mr. Mense chaired the AIA Committee on Design in 2012, was Chairman of the Anchorage Urban Design Commission and President of KSKA Public Radio. The Anchorage Museum of History and Art, the International Gallery of Contemporary Art in Anchorage and the Schack Art Center in Everett, Washington have exhibited his art. With Bonny Headley, he created the New York City Subway Station Coloring Book, published in 2016.
