Tim Mainhard is Professor of Educational Sciences at Leiden University in the Netherlands, where he studies the social dynamics of classrooms and higher education. His research focuses on teacher–student relationships, classroom climate, group dynamics, student wellbeing, and effective teaching.
His work combines psychological theory with practical questions from schools and universities. Together with teachers and educational professionals, he investigates how positive relationships and classroom interactions can support learning, motivation, inclusion, and wellbeing.
In addition to publishing in international scientific journals, Tim enjoys translating research into practical insights for teachers, school leaders, and teacher educators. His books aim to bridge the gap between educational research and classroom practice by offering evidence-informed guidance that teachers can immediately apply.
Tim teaches future teachers and educational professionals and regularly gives lectures and workshops on classroom relationships, group dynamics, and learning environments.
