Ian Mac

Ian Mac is the publisher of The Arts Edge Revision Series and The Arts Edge Classic Poetry Series, catalogues of structured revision guides covering Shakespeare, Eighteenth and Nineteenth-century literature and poetry as well as the Pre-Theatre companions covering opera, musical theatre, Shakespeare plays and ballet.

He read English Literature and the History of Art at a Scottish university, and has spent more than twenty years in the art and antiques trade — dealing in pictures, in late seventeenth- and early eighteenth-century English silver, and in early walnut furniture, which he also restored himself. He collects antiquarian books and early maps. His own shelves include leaves from the 1577 Holinshed, the chronicle Shakespeare drew on for Macbeth, King Lear and Cymbeline; a first edition of Dickens's Our Mutual Friend in the original monthly parts; and Tonson's 1727 Paradise Lost.

He came to publishing from education and technology. He worked as a full-time technology trainer from 1990 to 1995, and later spent four years as director of new technologies at a London university, where he also served as interim co-CIO. He developed a global consulting methodology for a major enterprise software platform, and has spoken at a global technology corporation's European forum in Barcelona on technology in higher education. He has written for that corporation's magazine and contributed an editorial to a major international airline's business title.

He writes and presents Ian Mac: The Arts Edge, a channel on arts education, opera, ballet and world music.

His ethos - time is knowledge.
