Cathy Ann Johnson

Cathy Ann Johnson — Amazon Author Bio

Cathy Ann Johnson is an award-winning author and illustrator who draws the way she hears music—catching the rhythm of a story before the illustrations emerge. Her richly colored picture books are rooted in a child’s point of view, with a Southern-rooted voice and a nod to the folklore, rhythm, and storytelling traditions that shape her work.

Growing up in Columbus, Ohio, Johnson considered the library her first museum. Picture books opened a world of art and imagination to her—a spark that carried her from Columbus College of Art & Design, through more than two decades as an illustrator at Hallmark, and eventually into children’s publishing.

Her illustrated books include My Voice Is a Trumpet (Flamingo Books), Stand Up! (Scholastic), A Cup of Quiet (Bloomsbury Children’s Books), My Nana and Me and Pop and Me (Xist Publishing), and Lyric’s Favorite Season (Nancy Paulsen Books).

Her work has been recognized by American Illustration and Communication Arts, and her artwork from Stand Up! has traveled beyond the page into museum exhibitions.

Cathy Ann lives and works between the United States and Italy, sketching between two continents.
